1.
the video is first talking about the fact that in the time of queen victoria, women wasn’t able to travel by there own, they were just here for gossip and to stay at home, and they were reading travels books, but most of them never leave the place they borned.
then the video talks about 3 women who travels by there own, Marianne North, Mary Kingsley and Alexandra David-Neel.
Marianne was a painter, she went to every continent except Antarctica just to discover new species of flowers to paint. Because of the lake of automobile and no paved street, she rode donkeys, she climbed...
She painted, because there was no photographies, the most unusual plants.
Mary was the daughter of a traveler doctor, he was writing a book of native customs in africa but died before finishing, so mary continue it.
people told her to not to go because of the danger and the fact that she a woman (wich make no sense for me) but she go.
she traveled in sierra leone in the jungle, she confirmed the existence of mythical creatures like the gorilla, she recalls fighting crocodiles, being in a tornado, she ate snake.
Alexandra, she was studying, and to be taking seriously by the men who wasn’t listening to her, she decided to visit the city of Lhasa, so she went to Tibet but she was stopped at the border of india, so she disguised herself (not understand in what she disguised?) but she was arrested in Himalaya, she said that, “the harder the journey, the better the story”
she wrote many books about tibetan religion.
finally the videos says that those women changes the course of human knowlegde and more than that, they change the idea of what is possible with the power of curiosity.

2.
I think that those women are very inspiring for our time, first they was heroine of there time because they went over the society thoughts, by traveling by there own and not by letting men lead there life, they prove to the world and to our generation that it’s not because you are a woman that you are weak and that you cannot do what men do. They changed minds from there times to our.

Good work, Erwan, although there's a number of grammar mistakes... tomorrow I'll send you an email or message on this website to help you rectify some of them.
Good insights.
Alexandra David-Néel realized that if people saw she was a foreigner, she would never enter Tibet. Therefore she disguised herself as a beggar: a poor and filthy woman no one would look at twice. And she got in.

1 ) The document talk about women's, in the time of Queen Victoria where women didn't do much. He talk about 3 women's, the first is Marianne North, she has travel in many countries, to discover new types of flower and she painted them.
The second is Mary Kingsley, she went to Sierra Leone, and she confirm the existences of many animals, she has eating snake, and when her dad died, she has write the end of her book about native customs.
The third is Alexandra David-Neel, she went to Tibet, but she was arrested so she decides to disguise herself but she was arrested so she wrote and read books.

2) For me those women were examples for their times because they have do things that no women have do, they have travel by themself and listen to nobody. They represent an example for our generation of determination.

1. the video talk about three woman that changed the world thoughts, Mary kingsley, Marianne North and Alexandra David-Neel. Those women were living in the queen victoria century’s, at this time, people thought that women were just here for stay at home and to do gossip. Women weren’t allowed to travel alone. But Mary, Marianne and Alexandra don’t care, they went to a journey. First, Marianne travels every continent except antarctica to paint new species of flower, she painted the most unusual flowers of the world. Than Mary went to africa, to finish the book of her father about the customs of sierra leone. she met Gorillas, crocodiles, hippopotamus and she ate snake. And finally, Alexandra went to Lhasan, Tibet to prove to men her research because no one listened to her, and she disguised her self into a tibetan man, but she was arrested. When she came back in her country she has written lot of books about Tibetan religion. the video say that those women changed the knowledge of traveling but they changed the idea of what is possible too.
2. I think that they are heroine of there time because they had the courage to do what women don’t do at there time and they prove from there generation to our generation that women are strong as much as men are. They are good exemple for women rights and respect.

These women are heroines of their time because they braved the clichés of their period. Despite the warning of men, they left to explore in the world : Marianne North to look for new plants, Mary Kingsley to finish the book of her father on the African population and Alexandra David-Neel to see the Tibetan population for real. These women explored the world despite the bad quality of technology at the time and their bulky clothes. These women are inspiring nowadays because they represent women strength but they also shatter other codes and women stereotypes. So they embodied conviction and proved that everything is a question of will.

1.this video talks about women between the 18th and the 19th century. He says that during this period women were destined for gossip and household chores. But some of these women wanted to change this image. In 1860 Marianne North left by boat with her painting and her love for flowers to discover flowers everywhere in the world except in Africa and all time she was dressed in a long dress. She painted flowers that no one had seen.
Marie Kingsley decides when her father dies to continue his book. In 1896 she went to Sierra Leone. In the jungle she saw a gorilla, fought with a crocodile, was caught in a tornado and touched a hippopotamus with his umbrella. She ate the snake and found it good.
Alexandra David Neel for show her intelligence gone to Lhasa in Tibet. To go to India she was disguised in man because Indians don’t let pass her because she was a woman. She was arrested and wrote a book in prison and it was vert famous .
These women have changed the world because they have show that the power of curiosity is stronger than people think.

2. For me what made them heroines and sources of inspiration today is because they not had listening the people who tell them «is not for the women» and they did for show is not just for the man and a woman can. With their exploits they changed like men saw the women.

Good work, all!

Fantine and Laeticia: Alexandra David-Néel was arrested several times when she tried to enter Tibet, but she was very determined to succeed, so she disguised herself as a beggar (une mendiante) not as a man. And she looked Tibetan, so the authorities let her get in. She stayed for several months in Lhasa, until people saw she was a foreigner, and then was sent back to India.
When she came back to France, and even while she was staying in other countries, she wrote books about her travels and experience. She was a specialist of Tibetan ethnography, religion and customs.

For everyone:
Marianne North was a de facto ethnobotanist.

I hope your other classmates will join you soon in this debate, but I'm happy to hear from some of you who had not sent me any work before...

1-In this video, we can learn about female explorers between the 18th and the 19th century at the time of Queen Victoria.
At this time women has considered as house chores and gossip, and their eyes gazed out windows at a world they were unlikely to ever explore. They just can read books who talks about travels.
In 1860, Marianne North an amateur gardener and painter crossed the ocean to America. She travels in many countries like Peru, Japan or India, she went on every continents except in Antarctica to discover new flowers.
She wears floor-length gowns, and because photography wasn’t invented she paints all the flowers that she met.
In London, Mary Kingsley after the death of her father decided to go in Sierra Leone in 1896 to finish her father’s book.
In the jungle, she discovers mythical animals like the gorilla and also eat a snake.
In France, Alexandra David-Neel who studied eastern religions, wants to discover Lhasa in the mountains of Tibet.
But at the border from India she wasn’t allowed to cross, so she decided to wear clothes as a Tibetan man. She pass by the barren Himilayas all the way to Lhasa, but she was arrested and write many books about tibetan religion.
So this women want to prove at the world that the desire to see for oneself, to change the idea of what is possible for a woman.

2- At this time, these female explorer heroines can show that a woman can break the society rules and do what she wants to do. That woman didn't need of a man to explore the world. They prove to the world that a woman can do the same things as a man and that traveling was not a man things, that women can do it too.

Now, this women continue to inspire some women in the world. Indeed, the fact that at their times without the necessary resources they can travel in the world, is really inspirational. Because we live in a society where women can travel anywhere, without need of a man. But at the time in this hard conditions, these women had can do huge things and it pushes women of our time to do the same things as this female explorers.

1.  This video talks about female explorers in the 19' century. Marianne North was an amateur garden and a painter. She crossed the ocean to America She went to Jamaica, Perou, Japon, India, Australia to paint new flowers. She rode donkeys, she climbed cliffs and cross swamps to reach the plants she wanted. She was the first European to catalog new flowers in the wild.
Mary Kingsley was the daughter of a travelling doctor who died before he finished his book about Africa.Mary decided to finish his book, so in 1896 she travelled to Sierra Leone. She met gorillas fought crocodiles, she was caught in a tornado.
Alexandra David Neel studied eastern religions. As the scholars, who were all men, didn't want to listen to her, she wanted to prove her value. So she decided to visit the legendary city of Lhasa in Tibet. To cross India's border she had to disguise her self as a man. She crossed the Himalaya to go to Lhasa. But she was arrested and she wrote many books on Tibetan religion. When she went back to Paris, she became famous and her books were valued.

2. In my point of view, those female explorers are heroines of their times because they succeeded in doing what was impossible for women at that time. Instead of staying at home, they decided to explore the world. They acted couragously on their own, without any help.  They  wanted to be taken seriously by men and they succeeded. They proved that women can be as talented as men. They contributed to the emancipation of women and they changed the idea of what was possible.

1) This video speak about women at the 18th and 19h century. At that time, that is to say the time of queen Victoria, women was destined for comerages and reading. But there were women who stood out like Marianne North, Alexandra David Neel and Marie Kingsley. In 1860 Marianne North decided painted flowers that no one had ever seen before. Marie Kingsley decided to continue father’s book after his death. She went to Sierra Leone, on the jungle to explore animals. She discovered gorilla, crocodile, hippopotamus or others species. And to finish Alexandra David Neel decided to go in Tibet, she decided to dress up as a beggar. She was arrested shortly after. But she wrote book in prison, and she has continue her adventure. These women changed the opinion of the people of the time by defying the cliches.

2) For me these women are heroines and models because they defied the stereotypes, they proved that the role of the woman was as important as that of the man and that a woman could also be independant and courageous.

1. This document talk about female explorers. They say that a young girl had to work hard if she want to discover new species of flower or pyramids or to go in the moon. At the time of the queen Victoria, women was only at the home and see the world by the window.

The first female explorer presented is Marianne North, an american who is a painter and gardener. In 1860, she traveled in Peru, Japan and Australia. She discovered all the continent to find new flowers to paint. The blue is her favorite color. By his paintings, Marianne has made the world discover new species of flowers particularly the paint "African torch lily". Many species take her name.

The second woman is Mary Kingley. She lived in London and she is the daughter of a doctor who was writting a book about her travelling in Africa. His father died and she decided to finish the book for him. In 1896, Mary go to Africa to travelling the jungle with two large suitcases. The explorer discorved the gorilla, fighting with crocodils, and has suffered tornadoes. For her, a good snake cook is the best meal.

The last women is Alexandra David Neel, she is studying in France and after, she decided to visit the mountains of Tibet. To beginning, at the borders of India, Alexandra was refused to access. So she hid herself with a necklass with skulls. But it's in the Himalaya that she was arrested. The woman wrote many books about her life and she is compared to man today.

2. These female explorers was heroines at their time because they were the first woman to make such great journeys. They are the pride of the others women at their time. These women are also a source of inspiration because, for the girls, the explorers are a model and they identify with their careers.
