GMO's

1- the topic of this video is GMO's. At the beginning of this video, one person say the the GMO's is GMOs are allowed for certain medicines and not for agriculture ? The first question is "GMO's bas ?". The scientist said eating GM plants was no bad than eating plants without GMO's. Next, it says that then it is said that proteins are injected into plants to kill harmful insects. But, is not dangerous for us, because it's adapted proteins to kill only insects and not humans. More, the person says that GMO's to make a big buisness. In fact, in the USA, 90% of crops are resistant to herbicides thanks to GMO's. To close this question, it says that critics of GMO's are mostly against modern agriculture. GMO's are not our enemies, but will help us have a more sustainable world. The second question is "GMO's good ?". For this question, 2 positive examples are given:
- BANGLADESH : use of GMO's on eggplants because they were destroyed by insects. Result, 80% less pesticides.
- HAWAÏ : use the GMO's on papaya because they had a virus.
The fird question is "futur". Scientists are working on GMOs to improve diet like fruits that produce more antioxidants to fight disease, or or to make plants more resistant to climate change. To conclude for this video, the UN predicts that in 2050 we will need 70% more food. And, the person says that GMOs could save our biosphere.
2- I am not concerned with GMOs because for me it is not a very important subject of debate. In fact, GMOs are surely bad for our health but can be good for other subjects.

1) I'm agree with Emilie, this video is about GMO's, it's a solution against the climat change and to protect environnement. Since lot of years, GMO's are present in medicament and it isn't a problem for us, so we can also use GMO's in food. The population increase, so we need to product more food. There are 2 possibility : cut all tree to expand fields or use GMO's to produce more while optimizing space. The principle of GMOs is to modify the plant, this is what repels some people, but all plants evolve naturally over time, so GMOs would make them evolve in the same way but more quickly and with the criteria of our choices. For example, we can product bigger food, we can inject insecticide in the plant : so it's better for our health than use pesciticides who stay on the aliment when you eat it. The insecticide that we inject into the food is not dangerous for us, for example, chocolate is dangerous for dogs but not for men, it is the same principe. Studies have been done and a GMOs food is no more dangerous to health than a not GMOs food. So the own limit is our imagination. For now, scientists are looking to make plants that adapt to the climate, to their environment.
The only problem with GMO's is that behind them hides a huge buisness and that the seeds are not reusable.
2)I think all people can think differently. Nobody must influed someone but everybody can expose his point of view. I think it's important to make your own opinion so you must be informed of all positifs ans negative aspects of each method without rumors. I have a neutral opinion about this but I think it'll be good a solution to protect environnement.

Re: Are GMOs good or bad?

1) For millennia humans have been crossing to have profitable seeds, GMOs have taken this place. Pesticides are easy to remove from food while GMOs are in the food we are told are safe for humans but just dangerous for insects. We are also shown the benefit of GMOs for example in Bangladesh it has helped regulate the use of pesticides and therefore has given better health to the farmer and a better income or a hawaii virus to attack papayas but by using GMOs on one can destroy the virus. We are also told that as the population needs more and more food on destroys more Alor forest than now on could create giant farms thanks to GMO
2) GMOs have good and bad sides. Why wouldn't man say to himself: if we do it with plants, why not do it with humans? After all, could GMOs be used to save the planet? But would humans, always seeking more profit, not also seek to expand to have more space and therefore produce more (in case it works) and therefore for example to destroy even more natural areas at instead of doing it on land they already have? Are GMOs really viable in the long term? Will insects not evolve and resist these GMOs? Won't viruses also evolve? Will this not destroy or modify the surrounding eco-system? Many questions and more are to be asked.

GMOs

1) This video is about GMOs, it explains what they are, why they are used and if they're bad or good and what is them future. For begin, GMOs are one of the most controversial subject in science. It explains that since thousand years, we create geneticaly modified organism for our needs, in choosing the better plants, and the better animals and mixe them to create some new. That's a form of GMOs , our plants and animals are different from initially. Create GMOs means choose some "better" genes for the organism, it's not different of what we have always done.
Are GMOs bad ? Some scientist said that GMOs plants have the same risks than no GMOs plants. Some protein are specialized to destroy the digestif system of specific insects, they are completly harmlest for humains like coffee who kill some insects but is harmlest too for humains, or like chocolate who is a poison for dogs and a greed for humans. The bad side of GMOs is the industry around them. Indeed, it represent a big businnes because, for exenple, in USA, 90% of crops are resistant to herbicides because of using glyphosate, so the use of glyphosate increase because of his efficacity and it caused criticism. We need to change agriculture and GMOs are not our ennemy.
What good GMOs can do ? The video gives two exemples:
- In the Bengladesh : some farmers used pesticides on eggplant but they had to stop because they are realy expensive and farmers became seak, so they planted GMOs eggplant and it reduce of 80% of using pesticides, increase yields and improved the health of farmers.
- In Hawai : They had the virus of the papaya so farmers used GMOs to have vaccined papaya against the virus, without that, There would be no more papaya in Hawai.
The future of GMOs : we know that 99% GMOs plants produce pesticides or are resistant against them. Scientist are working on GMOs that could improve our diet , on GMOs what could be resistant of extrem temperatures.
Conclusion : The world eat 5 millions tonnes of food per day and in 2050, the request will increase of 70%. GMOs are our most powerfull arm against climate change.
2) I think that GMOs are not the problem, it's rather how we use them, to get rich, to kill some insects who are important for the ecosystem, to have always better things because humans are greedy, they always want more. If we play with the genetic to have "perfect" organism, we cheat and it could be dangerous. GMOs could resolve some issues but they could too cause them.
3) I agree with Loann, use GMOs raise some ethic issues, we can wonder if humans are not playing with GMOs in a dangerous game ?

Opinion about GMOs
Sun 5 Apr - 22:36
1) This video is about GMOs, describing the benefits and drawbacks and the future and existing ventures as well. For example, GMOs are among science's most controversial topics. This demonstrates that we have been developing genetically modified organisms for our needs for thousands of years in choosing the best plants and the best animals and combining them to produce some new ones. The animals and plants vary from those originally. Several scientists have said plants with GMOs have same dangers as plants without any GMOs. Many proteins are specialist in eliminating the immune system of specific insects, they are totally harmful to humans such as caffeine which destroys many insects but is dangerous to humans, or like chocolate which is a toxin to puppies and a desire to humans. We will have to adjust farming and GMOs aren't our enemy.
The video provides two examples, the Bengladesh some producers employed eggplant pesticides, and then they had to abandon because they were very costly and producers were seak, so they cultivated eggplant with GMOs and it reduced the use of pesticides by 80 per cent, improved production and improved farmers 'safety. Hawaii got papaya virus so producers utilized GMOs to vaccinate papaya towards the virus, without some kind of, there will be no papaya left in Hawaii. We learn that vegetables with 99 per cent of GMOs develop or are immune to pesticides. Researchers are working on GMOs which could enhance our nutrition. The population is consuming 5 million tons of food a day and the demand will rise by 70% by 2050.
2) I don't feel very concern by GMOs, and i am neutral. I think we don't know the result and the consequences about using GMOs. So i think we had to make more recherch about that and we have to know if it is dangerous or not.
3) I am agree with Manon, because i think That some problem can be resolve with GMOs.

1. Firstly, we can see that the recent video is a sort of documentary about GMOs and their effects on the planet and on the health of the human population. The video treats 4 different questions about this type of agriculture : the first one is "What is natural ?", the second one is "Are GMOs bad ?", the third one is "What good GMOs can do ?" and the last one is "The future".
For the first question, the person who is talking to us say that people have been changing genes for millenium with plants and animals and it's the same thing with GMOs. So why it would be different ? We also learn that with the genetic modifications, we can choose the appearance of plants. For examples, we can make bigger fruits or protect them against insects.
For the second question, the voice over say that GMOs can be mixed with the natural feed. That's why they decided to use buffer zones to protect the natural culture from GMOs. Scientists proved that eat GMOs plants was like being eating natural plants in terms of dangerousness. We say that GMOs are very special for a main reason : a gene from bacteries like the BT are used for plants who can produce a protein who destroy the digestif system of specific insects. However, those proteins can be harmless for humans. For exemple, the cocolate is a poison for dogs but not for us or the coffee is a poison for insects but not for us too. But GMOs have a dark side that some people don't see. They are a big business for the pesticide industry : for exemple, in USA, 90% of the culture is resistant to herbicides like Glyphosate. That's why there are a lot of criticisms about this type of agriculture. GMOs are not ennemies but allies.
For the third question, the voicer over give us different positive exemples with the Bangladesh and Hawaï :
- In the Bangladesh, farmers used a lot of pesticides on aubergines. In 2013, the OGM aubergine arrived in their cultures and they've killed insects on plants. This phenomenon reduce the usage of pesticide by more than 80%.
- In Hawaï, papayas had a virus and the culture was tainted. They decided to use GMOs method and they resolved the problem.
For the last question, we learn that 99% GMOs plants can produce pesticides and are resistant to them. Scientists want to create GMOs who can improve our diet and who can resist to different climats. GMOs can help us to protect our environment.
In the conclusion, the voice over say that the world eat 11 millions pounds of food everyday and we would need 70% percent more in 2050. GMOs can resolve this problem if we change our agriculture. They can save our biosphere.
2. I'm not concern really concern about GMOs but i'm not sure that they are good for our health. The scientific studies who sing the praises of GMOs are probably financed by chemical firms like Mosanto :
- 40% of the research about GMOs are financed by business who create their GMOs seed.
- 404 out of 672 scientific articles about GMOs published between 1991 and 2015 are from USA (= bigger user of GMOs)
I think it's difficult to have an opinion about GMOs because a lot of studies are under the influence of big firm like Mosanto.

1 ) This video speak about GMOs. We understand that over time, the animal and plants have changed since their origin. The producter of the video ask : GMOs are bad ? He answers that eating GMOs plants isn't more hazardous that eating no-GMOs plants. Another more, some plants have been changed for become toxic but they are just for the insects, not for the human. Like the chocolate is dangerous for the dogs for their health whereas, us we love it.
Yet the GMOs representing a big buisness for the pesticide industry -> 90% of crops in the USA are sturdy of herbicide. This is a big problem around the GMOs. It's necessary that we change the agriculture for a more sustainable model, the GMOs are allies not ennemies.
The second questions is : GMOs are good ? We have two examples :
- Bangladesh : plantation of eggplants are destroyed by the insects, so the formers used pesticides but they get sick. So the implantation of the eggplant killed insects and it isn't dangerous for the formers -> 80% usage of pesticides.
- Hawai : The industry of papaya use the GMOs in order to protect the culture against the virus.
The last subjects is : the future. The GMOs allow to produce food without that the climate change has an impact on it.
Conclusion : The ONU think that we will need 70% more in 2050. We can continue to cultivate like that or find a better solution : the GMOs.
2 ) I'm not concern about GMOs, i don't think it's a problem. We are more and more on earth and we can't stay like that. It's for that i think that GMOs are an exit. Of course to modify in order to make them better, i think that it can be a solution but by solving issues, they creates new ones...

Good work everyone, so far!
I hope your other classmates will join you soon, you're supposed to be 46 students debating on this topic!
Well done on the video.
I can see in your opinions that a lot of you say they're rather neutral, which is ok - but by the end of this unit, I'd like you to detail much, much more your opinion (it'll be your final task!). Why are you neutral? A lot of you said 'it's probably not good for health but I don't feel concerned'. That is quite a strange point of view, unless you justify it - maybe your health isn't important to you, or maybe you think there are more pressing matters concerning health than GMOs.
But so far, so good.
For the next students commenting this thread, you can talk less about the video and more about your opinion and reaction to other people's posts!

1) This video is about GMOs in world and it answers at few questions: "what is natural?" it explain us that since few years humans have been genetically modifie plants. We keep what is good and multiply it to have a lot. After few years the things that we modifie is bigger (like corn or watermelon) or change differently (like taurus). And with medicine we can choose the traits we want for the plantationsor animals. "Are GMOs bad" the man said that there is the same risk if you eat GMOs plants or non-GMOs plants because there is also risk in non-GMOs plants. Some plants are changed and killed instect if they eat this plant but not human. It the same for chocolate, not for dog but very good for us. It depend the organism. "What's good GMos can do?" they tell us two examples: in Bangladesh, they use GMOs to kill insect who eat the eggplant but there is no damage for the human or farmers and there is a better income and less pesticide. In Hawaii the papya had a virus so with the inplantation of GMOs the virus was beatten. "The futur" scientist worked on GMOs to get a better food. They create a rice with more vitamin, tomatos who fight disease or plants who resistate at the rain, the water, the sun. Now plants can absorbs nitrogen or carbon to slow global warming. In conclusion they said that we eat eleven millions pounds of food everyday and we need seventy percent more in 2050 so GMOs are maybe a solution. And it's a weapon to save our nature.
2)Yes I'm concern about GMOs because that's the futur of food so if the food in few years is not good for the human body or if it's bad to eat there is a big problem. We have to know all about GMOs before to put in everywhere. But if theire are no problem with this it's perfect!!
3) I am disagree with Emma because we have to preocupate of how feed everyone and in exploiting properly the GMOs it can be a good things. But she's right because for the moment by solving issues, they creates new ones.

1- The main question the video seeks to answer is: are GMOs good or bad for our health? The video puts forward GMOs’ origin, their flaws and their advantages. It doesn’t present GMOs as something negative/positive, it’s rather neutral (the aim is to inform and not to transmit an opinion). The video teaches us some facts about GMOs (that my classmates already talked about) such as the fact that we have always used GMOs or the fact that pesticides are hazardous for insects and not for us since we don’t have the same organism.
2- I think I agree with most of the people here. Many people think wrongly that GMOs are just toxic products put into crops, but they aren't. There’s zero credible evidence to suggest that GMOs crops are bad and thousands of evidence to suggest that they’re no more (or less) harmful than non-GMOs crops. The thing about GMOs is that they were genetically modified for use of humans, and are often modified to benefit our health, rather than to be a detriment to it. As for the environmental health, I think that GMOs are actually a good thing for it. They supposedly allow more food to be grown with the same inputs of land. By using GMOs we need less land so less water and the crops made are naturally resistant to pests so we need less pesticide: it’s wonderful for the environment. Like all technology, GMOs can be used for many things, GMOs hold a lot of potential when it comes to solving global issues. They save lives. That being said, I think we should still be careful of what are the components of what we eat.

1 / GMOs are very controversial while they are applied in medicine. Humans have been modifying plants and animals for thousands of years, this is selective breeding.
GMOs are not considered selective breeding because there is no luck factor. One of the problems with GMOs is that they invade other crops, to fight this the terminator seeds were invented, but they force farmers to buy new seeds every year, so some people demonstrated against these seeds and they were banned . Another technique was found: the buffer zone, this zone makes it possible to protect GMO-free crops from GMO crops. Some studies say that GMOs are no more dangerous than other plants. GMOs replace pesticides because they are insecticides themselves, they are more resistant plants which reduce the impact of agriculture on the environment and protect it.
2 / For me GMOs are the solution to be able to feed the whole planet, because they allow a better production yield. In addition, many studies show that they are not bad for man and the planet, so I think that they still have to be developed.

1)The subject of this video is GMO’s. GMO’s are good or bad for our healt and our environment ?
In this little documentary, GMO are prensented like a good things for the future and us present. GMO help the farmer into the world for a better agriculture, they product more production thanks to her (the aggplants on Bangladesh or sick papaya in Hawaii). The GMO make fruits and vegetables more strong wich allowthem protect themselves of insects or diseases. GMO’s also, lower the level of pesticides present in the floor and on us food. The products present in fruits (with GMO’s) are not dangerous for humans. The technologies and GMO help for safeguard and protect us nature. We always need to product more quantities because our number on earth is constantly increasing. GMO’s a are a good alternative. Eat GMO’s plants represent the same risk as non GMO plants.
USA -> 90% of crops are resistant to herbicides
2) My personal opinion about GMO’s was, even if there are negative points, GMOs allow to feed more people and in greater quantity. It also makes life easier for farmers who already have a fairly complicated job. The fact that there is more production lowers the price and there for more people can access it. So for me, GMO’s is a good things for the human and the farmers. People who are against it have only to find a better alternative, but for the moment GMO are the best thing to feed the most people with unbeatable prices. It’s the most accessible for everyone.

1) This video is about GMOs. GMOs are a solution against the climate change and to protect the environnement. In this video, we learn that eat a GMOs plant isn't more risky than a normal plants because they GMOs serve to accelerate the procesus of the plant. On the other hand, they allowed farmers to produce the same quantity in a smaller area and in less time. So they can solve the problem of famine in the world. But, this scientific advance isn't apreciated by everyone, because some of peoples think that the GMOs plants are empoisoned and bad for health. Today, the problem of GMOs plants is, they can be used only once.
2) Personnaly, I don't have a pronounced opinion because I'm not informed enough because it's a complicated subject. But if I have to make a choice, I would be because they have a lot of positive aspects.

Are GMO's good or bad ?

1) GMO’s are very controversy in the world. They’re used in many situations. But they’re debate in food or agriculture. Human modify geneticly plants and animals since a long time and now almost all animals and plants are different from their origins. With GMO’s we can chose the traits we want.
But people have many fears. The gene flow traditional culture can be mixed with GMO’s culture and introduce unwanted things. We’re not sure about sources about: is this more dangerous to eat GMO’s food than normal food?
Are GMO’s good? -They reduce the using of insecticide, they improved health of farmers and their income increase.
But they’re very debate because of the glyphosate and they’re used more and more.
About the future of GMO’s. They’re gonna be use a lot and scientists reflect about things to improved GMO’s and their impact.
2) I think we can use GMO’s but must be careful not to abuse it. I think that we must not push nature to its limits so just improved the necessary and not overdo. And we have to use this only when it’s necessary, not every could use GMO’s. But if it decreases pesticide use, I think it can be a good thing. And we have to take care about the nature.

1) The topic of this video is GMO's. It 's divided in 4 parts. At the beginning , the narrator said that GMO's are accepted in medicine, but in the agriculture, a lot of people reject their utilisation. The first question is: " Are GMO's bad?". A man explain that after a lot of experiences, scientist explain eaten GMO's plants have the same risk as non-GMO's plants. Then, he explains that people product toxical plants to kill insects and only insect, with no bads-effects on humans. It's a specifical goal. He gives a good example : chocolate for dogs, it's poison but for us, it's a pleasur. At the end of this part, he explains that GMO's creat a big buisness as in USA where 90% of crops can resist to herbicides. The second question is : "What good GMO's can do?". To answer at this question, he gives example of two countries: Bangladesch and Hawai. In Bangladesch, people us proteine to kill insects because before, they eaten their cultures and old product returned a lot of people sick with pesticides. Hawai get a virus on the papaye, and they modificate his genetics, they stopped the virus. The third part is about the futur: he explains that some fruits going to fight diseases like tomatos or the rice can get more vitamines . Then, they use GMO's for plants, therefore, it's more resistant to climat change. The last part is the conclusion: He explains that in 2050 we will have need 70% more food, sowe wille have the choice between destroy trees to get more place to agriculture or intensify crops with GMO's.
2) I think that GMO's can be good or bad but it depends of kind of use. But for me, some GMO's use in the agriculture have bad effect to healthy and they hide it, and I don't like that.. Furthermore, it's possible to pollut the environment. After, with GMO's il will be more easy to product in the future.
3) I agree with Emilie because I think too that GMO's are surely bad for the healthy but good for the future or another subjects

1) The topic of this video is GMOs. It explains to us why GMOs are harmless for us and why we should use it to solve our environmental problems and the problems we’ll have in the future. So this video defends the use of GMOs while saying that if they are accept in medical application, they should be accept in agriculture. In fact humans have already been genetically modifying plants and animals while bred the plants or animals which animals which ensure the survival of human beings. The difference with GMOs and this is that with GMOs we can choose what trait of the organism, we want to change. Two of the biggest arguments against GMOs are: - GM crops could mix with traditional crops, so it introduces unwanted characteristics - terminator seeds produce sterile plants. One important question is asked: “food of GM crops is it different from food of traditional crops?” . According to this video eating GM plants is no more risky than eating traditional plants for humans, but it contains poison that can kill insect pests. So it means that peasants have no more need of pesticide, it is good for them health and our. In the fight for a more sustainable model of agriculture according to this video, GMOs are an ally and not an enemy because they can help to save the nature. In many of countries GMOs help to solve situations when pesticides are expensive and harmful for humans or when a virus attacks the crop. In the future they can improve our diet, help us to fight diseases and they can be adapted of many of climate changes.
2) I think that I don’t have concern about GMOs as long as the companies which use them tell all the truth about them to consummator and peasants which need them. If it can help us healthily to deal with the problems or challenges we’ll going to have it is a good thing.
3) I agree with Julie because the good consequences on the environment aren’t negligible. As long as we have the proof that it represents none danger for human we can rely on them.

1)This documentary was produced by the Kurzgesact channel. He begins directly by telling us that ogms are very controversial in the world of science. The debate over GMOs is intensifying when it comes to food and agriculture. We are then asked the question of What is really natural? Humans have modified plants even animals for thousands of years. Today almost all animals and plants are different from their original state. Ogms can cause vegetables to become larger than their starting point and can even prevent insects from destroying these crops so why do men worry. There is an anti-gmo argument which is a seed called Terminator. Its goal is to produce sterile plants which push farmers to buy new seeds every year. Following protests, the technology was stopped. Then we are asked the question of what food with GMO and without is the same? They tell us that plants with GMOs are no more risk than plants sprayed with equivalent products. Despite that some investigation proves the contrary. We also learn that certain ogms allow plants to produce their own pesticide which kills the insects which consume it or which is in contact with it. This is worrying because food with pesticides can be cleaned but with this kind of GMO the product is inside the plant. According to this document, it is harmless to humans. They take the example of chocolate which is bad for dogs but good for men or even coffee bad for insects but good for men. In the video we are then given examples of what good GMOs can do for example: in Bangladesh, they use GMOs to kill the insects that eat the eggplant but there is no harm to humans or farmers and there is a better income and less pesticides. In Hawaii, papaya had a virus, so with the introduction of GMOs, the virus was defeated. The "future" scientist worked on GMOs to get better food. They create rice with more vitamins, tomatoes that fight disease or plants that resist rain, water, sun.
Now plants can absorb nitrogen or carbon to slow global warming. For the last question, we learn that 99% of GMO plants can produce pesticides and are resistant to them. Scientists want to create GMOs that can improve our diet and that can withstand different climates. GMOs can help us protect our environment.
2) I am more particularly against GMOs despite the necessity of the advantages. Indeed at first these ogms contributed to the destruction of the planet which does not need that with all the others come out of the pollution generated by humans. Men would not starve a few years ago and yet he did not use this kind of product. I think that instead of using this kind of product, we have to spread agriculture better, instead of producing a lot of a single food that ended up not even being consumed. In addition to having risks on the ecology, there are risks for our health. These are the two reasons why I am against GMOs.
3) I do not agree with Julie because to say that it is the men who created the ogms is not an argument to say that they are good. Admittedly at the outset, they were created to make our lives easier, but in the end they pose risks to our health. In addition, replacing pesticides with a product that may not be better for the environment and perhaps worse for health is not a good solution.

1) The video shows us the positive and negative aspects of GMOs. Indeed, GMOs is one of the most controversial topics in science. The first part of the video is “What is natural ?”. Human have been genetically modifying animals and plants for hundreds oy years, so today they no longer resemble their original species. For example, with GMOs, you can make a fruit bigger by eliminating the chance factor. The second part is “Are GMOs bad ?”. Crops with GMOs can pass on some of their characteristics to other crops that do not use them unintentionally. There made the plants sterile. Some scientific studies have shown that there is the same risk with plants with GMOs as with plants without GMOs. Some GMOs in plants can be harmful to certain species (insects… ) but harmless to us. But GMOs are a huge benefit to the pesticide industry. We want agriculture with a more sustainable model and the GMOs can be our allies. The third part of the video is “What good GMO’s can do ?”. The GMOs reduced the pesticide on eggplants in Bangladesh by 80% because the insects died with the modification of eggplants. GMOs have also prevented the disappearance of the papaya crop in Hawaii by vaccinating the fruit against the disease. The fourth part is the future. Scientists are working on GMOs that are beneficial to our diet by producing certain specific nutrients (rice with more vitamins). They also want to design plants that are resistant to climate change. Make GMOs an ally against environmental problems, especially those due to nitrogen. Also make plants that absorb carbon. The last part is “The conclusion”. We need more food for 2050. This can be done more easily with GMOs. GMOs can be our weapons to save the environment.
2) GMOs is not the subject that concerns me the most. In particular, I had a hard time making up my mind with everything that’s going around on it. Indeed, GMOs have some positive points and avoided certain pesticides. But for me, GMOs are unnatural, so not necessarily useful. I also think that we were told only the positive points and that the negative ones were hidden from us. I think that instead of changing everything, we should go back to healthier agriculture.
3) I agree with Lauris, the GMOs , can have risks for the ecology and for our health. Moreover, they are used to produce more, while the food will be thrown away because it is distributes to rich countries. We must therefore diversify the cultures in each country.

1/This vidéo talk about gmo. It's says the genetique ingenering are use to many application , when it's in medical application it's not a problem but when it's problem in the field of agriculture.During the vidéo some question are asked like: ”what is naturel” because human have modify plants and animal since thousands of years, some have genetique caracter benificial for human being.the only difference it's with gmo you choise what you want while with selective breeding you choice among species that already exist.A big problem of GMO is the seed can't be used several years because the seeds are not fertile, a other problem it's gmo can cross with no GMO without wanting it. The vidéo says too than lot of scientific studies eat GMO it's not more dangerous than not GMO.Some plants are genetique modify to be toxic for insect so this poison don't hurt human, poison it's question of point of view for exemple the coffe are toxic for insect and it's good for human.
Some other seed are modify to resist to the glyphosate (herbicite) so famer are influence to use glyphosate rather than other méthod. It's said we have to change our agriculture so that GMO can use to save and protect nature.A Other question is asked “waht Gmo can do “ for exemple in bangladesh eggplant is important but insect eats them so the famer use persticides but it made them sick. The introduiction in 2013 of GMO eggplate with poison protein who kill insect stop this, so it reces the consumption of pesticide of 80 pourcente.Other exemple at Hawaii, papaya was affected by the ringspot virus and the only solution was GMO papaya resistant to the virus. In the vidéo they talk also the futur of GMO , 99 pourcent of GMO produict pesticide or are resistante against, but we can do more like purple tomato with higherst antioxydant level or golden rice with beta-carotene, or plant who adapts better at the climate, the scientist work on a plant who can absord Azote used for fertilizer polluting the groundwater, or modify plant to inverse climat change absorbing carbone. The conclusion of the vidéo is in 2050 we need 70 porcente more of food, so we have two choice the first covert more land like forests or the second use gmo technologie.
GMO can be our most powerfull welpon to save biosphère.
2/I am not concerned with GMO because for me “science it's a fact if you trust or not “ so if scientist says it's not bad.Why all the time questioning ? For me GMO it's just when it's necessary,I let the people in charge do it so I am not concert.

There are some excellent remarks here, in all your posts.
Great work!
If you want to plan ahead in your work, you can start listing the arguments in favour and against GMOs in your classmates' comments.
This will be part of your final task (due after the holidays).

GMOs

1/ This video it's about GMOs. This video answers many questions like “What is natural ?”, “Are GMOs bad ?” or “What good GMOs can do ?” and it asks the question of what this new technology can do in the future. At first, it says genetic engeneering is used in many fields and that people have no problem when GMOs are used in the medical field but when it's in the field of agriculuture or food, people have more trouble trusting.
When the first question is asked, it explain taht genetic engeneering allows to choose traits we want, like if we want the food grow up more bigger or if we want it to be immun to pests... It also explain that we have been changing genes for millenium with animals and plants.
When it asks if GMOs are bad, it says that the big anti-GMO is the terminator seed and the GMOs can be found in other crops. Food GM crops and food non-GM crops are they different ? After 30 years scientists conclued there is no more danger eating GMO plants than eating non-GMO equivalent. So these plants/food are not a danger of death for us but it is one for some insects because they produce protein that destroys the digestive system of some of them. It explain that
BT crops are a danger protein for some insect but not for us. For pesticide industry it's a big business. The most cristicism of this technology are criticism of modern agricultutre and business practise of huge corporation. Finally it says that GMO it's an ally and not an ennemy becaus it can help to save and protect nature and minimize our impact on the environment.
The following question “What good GMOs can do ?” is answered by quoting 2 example :
- Bangladesh with eggplant. These plants are destroyed by pests so farmers have used pesticides so that BT protein kill insects and redused insecticide use on these plants by 80% so there was more harvest.
- Hawaï in 1990's with papaya. These plants were attacked from the ringspot virus. The solution was to make them genetically modified to be vaccinated against this virus.
For the question about the future, 99% product pesticides or are resistant against them. We are also trying to engineer plants more resilient to climat change.
So, for the conclusion it says that every days, the population of the world eat 11 millions of food and in 2050, we will need 70% more.
2/ I think GMOs are both good and bad, it depends. But i think the most concerning is how we use it to have ever more power and money. So yes we can say i am quite concern by GMOs. Even if there are many things which can be good for the populations, for the earth, i'm still on the defensive because i don't trust science with my eyes closed. So i need to learn more about this subject to get a real opinion.
